Comment on What could be concerns for people who might have a negative perception about Reiki Therapy? by Reiki Chick

Firstly I believe that people tend to be afraid of what they don't know or understand. That's the beginning of the problem. In addition, in most countries, reiki is still relatively unregulated. This means that anyone can call themselves a reiki practitioner/master/teacher with no knowledge or understanding with very little legal repercussions. I personally know people who insist they are bonafide reiki practitioners who were trained and attuned while they slept from some guy they paid $60 to overseas. I tried explaining that they were scammed, and that you cannot be trained and attuned while you sleep, but because they've paid out their money, they feel they can legitimately make that claim. So what happens from here? those people go out and advertise themselves. Any clients they do see would very quickly come to realize that this person is full of crap and knows nothing.

The problem with that is that often Reiki gets the blame rather then the person who made false claims. And thus the gossip spreads.

In addition, some people do not really understand how the body works, and therefore put far more trust in pills and western medicine then they should. Most western people also have a disconnect between what they eat, exercise, sleep and how they feel on a day to day basis. So these people are never going to accept reiki no matter what others say.

But times are changing. Reiki is becoming more mainstream as people become more educated on it. There are associations out there that work to regulate the industry and who advocate for the government to take a bigger role in monitoring claims and education. This will help hugely.

In the meantime, as a Reiki Master myself, I don't worry about the nay sayers. I put my energy towards work to help educate those who are interested in learning, and providing treatments for those who want it.

Just my thoughts.

@ajbonine69 Reiki takes hold of vulnerable people and charge's money for "healing", for if healing is from Divine source, how can a gift have a cost. If the healing is through the "healer", how can they charge money for treatment, as it's not their's to charge. A message ignored is a sign there is no answer, so the point is valid. Not that it is wrong, or unjustified, this is seen in legalistic term's.

Reiki is not medical treatment it's a spiritual practice. Yet reiki master's, claim to treat medical problems, and psychological disorder's, therein lies, a ironic thing, how can they treat medical problems when they are not health care practitioner's. As a relaxation therapy may help, but so does lying down listening to relaxation music, and is much cheaper.

If you go for physical therapy, you will get a steady paycheck. You will also have the anatomy and physiology credits you will need for massage school. Skip Reiki. It costs a couple hundred dollars and you can't direct the energy flow to really change people's lives. Yoga you can still study while you are working as a physical therapist. Reflexology you will study in massage school. I have been a professional healer for 25 years. Email me if you want more detailed school info. Stay with the steady paycheck. You can always pursue the others on your own time until you can open a private practice.

Sorry don't mean to be disagreeable but Reiki is actually NOT the art of healing a person through their aura.

You can cleanse an aura through meditation and things like the EMF Balancing Technique.

Reiki is basically hands on healing.

Other names that are sometimes used to describe hands-on healing are things like spiritual healing and faith healing.

http://www.reiki.org/faq/WhatIsReiki.html

This question was answered last week, so do a search on Yahoo for more answers.

I found reiki treatments to be a very helpful natural healing method to use when I was suffering from grief. They were not expensive, about $40.00 for a two hour session.

Given that it costs $70.00 to see my doctor for 15 mins plus the expense of medication on top of that, I would say it was $40 well spent.
